Our Commitment to Diversity, Equity & Inclusion
We are committed to diversity, equity, and inclusion both in our workplace and in our work
Our mission at ACS is to empower our people to partner in solving our customers’ most important and complex problems, advance missions of national security, and deliver value through actionable strategy.
Our purpose is to deliver on this promise through leading technologies, the imagination and ingenuity of our people, and our commitment to our staff, customers, and the communities in which we live and work.
Inclusion is key to our success. We are a talented, proud, diverse cast of characters from all walks of life. Our commitment to equity for all enables us to attract, develop, inspire, and reward top talent. And it creates an environment that allows our team to perform at their very best in a culture in which everyone feels they have an equal opportunity to belong and build a career.
This commitment starts at the very top with our Managing Partners. We expect leaders and team members at all levels to help create and sustain a culture of equality where everyone can advance and thrive at ACS.
Diversity, Equity & Inclusion Defined
DIVERSITY includes all the ways in which people differ, encompassing the different characteristics that make one individual or group different from another. While diversity is often used in reference to race, ethnicity, and gender, ACS embraces a broader definition of diversity that also includes mission-relevant experience, age, national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, socioeconomic status, education, marital status, language(s) spoken, and physical appearance. We also recognize that individuals affiliate with multiple identities.
EQUITY is fair treatment, access, opportunity, and advancement for all people, while at the same time striving to identify and eliminate barriers that have prevented the full participation of some groups. In order to improve equity at ACS, we must increase justice and fairness within our procedures and processes of institutions and systems. Tackling equity issues requires an understanding of the root causes of outcome disparities within our society.
INCLUSIVE environments are places in which any individual or group is and feels welcomed, respected, supported, valued, and able to fully participate. ACS strives to maintain an inclusive and welcoming culture that embraces differences and offers respect in words and actions for all people, and fosters a diversity of thought, ideas, perspectives, and values.
How We’re Doing
Our diversity, equity, and inclusion strategy is to leverage and promote diversity, inclusion, and belonging through a framework of culture, talent, and community initiatives to foster innovation and diverse perspectives.
We have updated our recruiting and hiring practices and policies to be more inclusive and equitable. Rather than a “culture fit” approach, we focus on “culture add” when evaluating candidates.
In addition to our annual 30% veteran hiring target, we have set a 30% annual hiring target for all non-hourly job openings focused specifically on building company diversity.
We have set three-year diversity goals for our corporate leadership, committing to at least 30% diversity in our leadership team, inclusive of succession planning, by 2024.
D&I is a mandatory goal for employees at all levels, and manager incentive compensation is tied to these goals.
We continuously look to expand our “recruiting ecosystem” to include more qualified diverse candidate sources and related organizations.
For all positions of influence at ACS, we require two-thirds diverse candidates be interviewed and considered before a making hiring decision.
We have reviewed and edited all of our policies to use gender inclusive terms, and we’re working on analyzing our job descriptions for potential bias.
We are actively educating our team. We have added Unconscious Bias and Culture Add courses to our inclusive workplace curriculum, and ACS senior executives have been attending seminars, educational events, and roundtables with local business executives to continue learning.
In 2021, ACS ranked #27 on the Washington Business Journal’s inaugural Corporate Diversity Index for Small Companies List, a ranked list of the most diverse small companies in the greater Washington, D.C. area. To evaluate these companies, the Washington Business Journal reviewed the percentage of people of color at ACS, including those in executive leadership positions.
Gender
We believe the future workforce is an equal one.
We are committed to a gender-balanced workforce by 2025.
Race and Ethnicity
We are committed to recruiting, retaining, and advancing talent from diverse ethnic and racial backgrounds and helping them thrive at ACS.
We are committed to at least 30% diversity in our leadership team by 2024.
Age
We are committed to building a base of talent across the age spectrum to maximize cognitive diversity, increase innovation and decision-making, and improve mission outcomes.
