If you’ve been following our #ACSOrigins story, you may be thinking, wow, they seemed to have taken some wrong turns. And we certainly did.
But, despite what publishing houses and the web will tell you, there is not playbook for starting a business. The bare bones are certainly out there, but the meat on those bones—the everyday decisions—are unique to each business.
We made some good choices, no doubt. Our enduring strategy; our commitment to culture, values, transparency, and the military; and our desire to empower our employees and treat them like family reflect ACS to this day.
But not all choices were good. There have been some silly mistakes and then some downright poor decisions. But from each bump, we learned. We now lovingly call our path “the scenic route,” where we took a detour but are all the better for it. It also reflects one of our core values—“Outcome-based Tenacity” (or grit—why say something in one word when you can say it in 3?).
The image above (pardon the language) hangs in my office as a reminder. Thank you Erin, not only for the poster, but for your willingness to weather the scenic route with me.
