Of course, anyone who has started a business knows there really is no honeymoon period—the hard part starts immediately (well, that’s assuming you’d like a paycheck). So, our first order of business was to divvy up responsibilities and start earning our keep. Shockingly (I know), no one wanted to hire us for what we’d done for big companies (Program Management)—so what did we have to offer?
The very first ACS strategic plan was simple, effective, and durable.
That level of big thinking required serious fuel—so we met for milkshakes, burgers, and fries at Cheeburger Cheeburger in Rockville, Maryland. There, on the back of a napkin, we sketched out our 5-year plan.
It spoke to technologies and customers and vehicles. But more importantly, it codified our commitment to operate differently on purpose—keeping values and culture at the center of all we were planning.
The very first ACS strategic plan was simple, effective, and durable.
Eventually it moved from a napkin to a notebook, and from a notebook into a full-fledged plan. But that original strategic plan tracks ridiculously well to the first five years of ACS and has served as a touchstone to much of our decision-making.
